Go Out With Head Held High Nissan’s GT-R has been essential to Japan’s domestic motorsports scene. However, it was replaced in JGTC racing (the forerunner of Super GT) by its sibling, the Z, for the 2004 season. During 2003, the last season before the switch, one of the many GT-Rs on the Super GT grid was the red and silver liveried Xanavi NISMO car. This No.23 car was driven by Satoshi Motoyama and Michael Krumm to defeat the rival Toyota Supras and Honda NSXs to eventually become that season’s champion. Tamiya’s 1/24 scale finished display model accurately replicates this championship-winning machine, from its ground-hugging form to its spartan racing cockpit. A die-cast underpanel gives the model a quality feel and the body is of course finished in the eye-catching livery. |
