The Martini-sponsored Alfa Romeo works team had an excellent 1996 season in the International Touring Car Championship (ITC), their 155 V6 TI taking on the might of Mercedes-Benz and Opel and coming away with an impressive 9 victories. Based upon the iconic Italian company’s four-door 155 sedan, it was souped up with front spoiler, rear wing, diffuser and aerodynamic tweaks to the body shell. Its 450hp-plus 2.5l V6 employed the same pneumatic valve system run by Formula One cars, and had its power transmitted to all four wheels via a semi-automatic 6-speed transmission and electronically controlled front, rear and center differentials. Little wonder, then, that it had such a successful season!
