【Leading role of the Rapid Deployment Regiment】

The JGSDF’s Type 16 Mobile Combat Vehicle is an armored vehicle whose procurement began in FY2016. The MCV is equipped with 8 wheels with large tires and a 570 horsepower diesel engine, and has a maximum speed of 100 km/h. Designed for rapid troop deployment, these vehicles are capable of moving on their own on high-speed roads or in aircrafts for rapid troop deployment. The domestically produced 105mm rifled gun has an excellent fire control system that ensures high accuracy even when firing between runs. It also features wedge-shaped hollow armor on the front of the turret. Its primary mission is to provide firepower support to infantry units and attack armored vehicles, and its deployment began with educational units such as the Fuji School and Weapons School. Deployment is underway mainly to units deployed in Kyushu and Shikoku.
